The 'Aestas' Jewellery Box by Aidan McEvoy Fine Furniture

– Aestas: The Roman Goddess of Summer

Flowing and feminine we simply love the unique and intrinsic nature of Aidan McEvoy’s ‘Aestas’ Jewellery Box.  With its floral inspiration and delicate details it provides a special alternative to the standard ‘box’ shape that are so used to seeing.  We spoke with Aidan to gain a little further insight into his piece.

What four words would you describe the piece?

“Bloom, elegant, organic and unique”

What was your inspiration for the piece?

“This piece is part of my Aestas body of design work, where inspiration is drawn from my local flora and the natural environment. The original sketches for this piece sat unrealised for 6 years until 2013 when I exhibited for the first time at Buckingham Palace as part of the Coronation Festival.”

What is your favourite thing about the Aestas Jewellery Box?

“The handles and feet. Even though they are the smallest parts, they can change the mood of the piece very easily.”

Were there any challenges in making this piece, if so how were they overcome?

“The handles and feet were extremely challenging and time consuming, but because of that they were the most rewarding, as the many iterations of their development have brought me in touch with a great wealth of new materials and processes such as precious metal clays and leathers.”
